Our Story

Killeenfarna Connemaras is owned by James Balfe and Sarah Wills and is located in Wingen, NSW in the Upper Hunter.
James grew up in the West of Ireland where the Connemara pony originates from. Growing up in Claremorris, Co. Mayo, within an hours drive to Connemara, James was always surrounded by Connemara ponies.
His passion for the pony stayed with him when emigrating to Australia.
The prefix, Killeenfarna is the area that the Balfe family home is located.
We acquired our first ponies from the Estate of the late Sue Clarke of Glenormiston Stud. We thank the Clarke family for allowing us to purchase Glenormiston Rosalie and Glenormiston Fionnuala with Glenormiston Buachaill at foot – two prized mares to be our foundation mares.
We strive to breed a pony that gives joy to the owner, no matter what level they are competing at.
With the help of sisters, Bronte and Abbey Holcombe, the young stock are given a great grounding so all ponies can reach their full potential.
Homebred Killeenfarna Uncle Joe is out of Glenormiston Fionnuala and covered his first mares in 2020. We are eagerly awaiting his first foals in the 2021 season.
Our aim is to breed beautiful, sound minded ponies that give pleasure to all involved with them.
The Australian Connemara has some of the treasured pedigrees that we aim to keep alive.
